now you won't forget me.....

It has now been six months since I closed Mermaid Gallery and I'm feeling great. I loved my gallery but it was all consuming. My mind was always occupied with business. Then, there was really nothing that I liked better than free advertising. I remember last summer seeing an article in the local snooze about the chamber of commerce erecting a dozen signs around town for the tourists. They had a pic in the paper of the sign. I struggled to read the small print. With the help of my jeweler's eyepiece I was able to read what it said. Oh my gawd! I'm on the sign! Nobody asked me. Nobody told me it was coming. I forgot about it. Now I'm spending lots of time having fun and the other day I was down at the park and saw the sign for real. I am the only independant business listed on the sign. Big detail....we are no longer there. Free advertising and no use for it!  These signs could be around for a long time. Thanks, who ever is responsible.... now you won't forget me.....

timing is everything...

We are at the in between time.  It's the tail end of winter and the tip of spring. We call it, "spring break." The schools let everybody out of their confining walls for two weeks. That's wonderful if you are able to take the family away on an airplane to a warm destination. But, if you are trying for some warmth and weather here in Canada...too bad. It's a little early. Too early for most outdoor activities. ( other than the winter favourite...skiing ) Most ,"spring" actitvities, like bike riding, kite flying, skateboarding, basketball, soccer, and playing catch are best enjoyed on a warm day. Warm is just not happening in Canada quite yet.  The high country is still frozen up and the valley bottoms still have a daily frost. There are going to be  lots of kids in swimming pools around the country as their parents rack their brains for some  fun activities. In a couple of weeks everything will pick up...but oh ya...the kids will be back in school then. Maybe somebody should mention to the school boards that ....timing is everything....

MAGIC...on a webcam...

No tropical holiday this year...but I can still feel the sun. This morning I went to view one of  my favourite live, webcams.  I follow about five different  live, webcams in different  tropical places. I can look and remember the smell, the sounds, and the feel of the place. It's a time travel thing.  Another obsessive time waster on the computer, but I enjoy it. My sister and her husband  have been on holiday on Maui and this was their last morning there.  So this morning I tuned into my Maui camera. I know this camera is just down the road from where they are staying on the beach. Maui is two hours behind us so it was still dark on the webcam when I tuned in..  Dawn was not long off so I left the website up while I went for a shower. At 6:30 a. m. Maui time, I sat back down to have a look. The camera was pointed out at the water. Sometimes it sweeps the beach but this morning it is aimed off shore. I'm checking it out when I see a hump rise out of the water. Then another hump. I think it must be logs or something when a burst of spray comes up. Then  I spot another spray further out. I realize then that I am watching two humpback whales. The humpback whales winter in Maui and are often spotted offshore. They are huge and an amazing sight.  I watched them for probably fifteen minutes before they were gone Now what are the chances of this happening? MAGIC...on a webcam... Have a look....www.mauicondowebcam.com/        my all time favourite is at http://www.playapalms.com/ another great one at http://www.locogringo.com/   Look for  beach cam ....    Another good one at Margarita del Sol, Mahahual. (you'll have to google that one.) Remember to mark them as favourites so you can watch them later.....

celebrate...

The games were truly wonderful...Vancouver showed the warmth, colour, and diversity of the Canadian mosaic. While the world watched, we shone with pride. With enthusiasm and delight we shared the beauty of our country. .....We know how to....celebrate...
